Submission Guidelines

Lawley Publishing is currently accepting unsolicited manuscripts and art for publication consideration in the following categories:

  • Children’s fiction and nonfiction picture books

  • Early Reader fiction and nonfiction chapter books

  • Middle Grade fiction and nonfiction

Lawley Publishing does not publish the following:

  • Young Adult fiction and nonfiction

  • Adult fiction and nonfiction

  • Board Books

Manuscript Submission Guidelines

Lawley Publishing only accepts physical, mailed copies of manuscripts; do not email or send a digital copy. In order to have your submission reviewed, you must include:

  • A copy of the full manuscript

  • A query letter

  • All pertinent biographical information (social media handles, website, contact information, past publishing credentials, etc.)

  • If you would like your materials returned, also include an appropriately sized envelope with adequate postage and note in your cover letter that you would like your manuscript returned. If there is not sufficient postage, the manuscript cannot be returned and will be recycled. Please do not send currency in lieu of appropriate postage. Lawley Publishing is not responsible for the return or condition of submissions.

  • Lawley Publishing does not accept crude, rude, derogatory concepts or images.

  • Lawley Publishing does not respond to or act on query letters where no manuscript is included.

  • Artwork is not required for picture book submissions, however, please include copies of any artwork you may already have with the understanding that Lawley Publishing reserves the right to select the illustrator. Please do not send originals.

Prospective Illustrator Submission Guidelines

Lawley Publishing accepts physical, mailed or digital copies of illustrations; please do not send originals art work. In order to have your submission reviewed, you must include:

  • 4 – 7 illustration samples which:

    • display your ability to depict subjects or characters in a consistent manner

    • portray a variety of subjects, and

    • display your abilities in various media, styles, or techniques

  • All pertinent biographical information (social media handles, website, contact information, past publishing credentials, etc.)

  • If you would like your materials returned, also include an appropriately sized envelope with adequate postage and note in your cover letter specifying that you would like your samples returned. If there is not sufficient postage, the samples cannot be returned and will be recycled. Please do not send currency in lieu of appropriate postage. Lawley Publishing is not responsible for the return or condition of submission.

DO NOT contact our office regarding the status of your submission. We make every effort to review submissions in a timely manner, but the review process usually takes upwards of 4-6 months to complete, as we strive to give every manuscript the attention it deserves.
